Famous Travellers in Scotland

The intention of this section of Scotland from the Roadside is to follow in the footsteps of some famous travellers. People like:

  • William Wallace and Robert the Bruce who travelled during their fight to help keep Scotland independent.
  • Bonnie Prince Charlie who travelled around Scotland for two reasons; firstly in an attempt to claim the British throne for his father; and then in an effort to evade capture.
  • The cattle drovers who made their way from the Highlands and islands with cattle to sell at the markets in the south or even England.

For details of other famous visitors to Scotland, check out Travellers' Tales of Scotland by R. H. Coats (published 1913)!
