Gigha

The island of Gigha sits just 2 miles off the west coast of Kintyre and is accessed by ferry from Tayinloan on the mainland. As the island is only 6 miles long and less than 2 miles wide, with nowhere more than 4 miles from the ferry terminal, it is possible to leave the cars behind and explore on foot or bike.

The ferry takes about 20 minutes to cross the Sound of Gigha and, as it does, the Paps of Jura are visible over the northern end of the island. To the south, three windmills, the Dancing Ladies of Gigha, are also visible. However these disappear from view as the ferry comes into Ardminish where anyone that has decided to leave the cars behind can hire bikes at the shop.
