Loch Lomond's Islands
As well as being the largest body of water in Scotland, Loch Lomond also has a large number of islands, mostly within the southern half of the loch. Inchmurrin is the largest and furthest south of the islands; there are the ruins of a castle in the southwest of the island as well as a chapel dedicated to St. Mirrin. Inchcailloch sits to the northeast of Inchmurrin, near Balmaha on the eastern shore of the loch; the smaller islands of Creinch and Torrinch lie between the two larger islands. Clairinsh sits to the southeast of Inchcailloch with Inchfad to the northwest. Heading west from Inchfad, towards Ardochlay on the western shore of the loch, is the main group of islands; the group includes Bucinch, Inchcruin, Inchmoan, Inchconnachan and Inchtavannach. Inchlonaig sits to the north of this group, to the east of Luss. |
