Lake of Menteith

The Lake of Menteith - the only lake in Scotland.

From the northern shore of the lake, you can take a ferry out to the island of Inchmahome, the largest of the three islands on the lake, and explore Inchmahome Priory, which was founded in 1238.

There are two other islands on the lake - Talla and Dog Island.

Visible on Talla is the ruined castle of Inchtalla, the home of the earls of Menteith in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This appears to have been built from stone taken from Inchmahome.
