Killin

Killin, from the Gaelic Cill Fhinn, the cell or burial place of Fingal, is situated in the north west corner of the Trossachs - follow the A84 north from Callander, past Lochearnhead, and then the A827 east.

Falls of Dochart, KillinIn the centre of the town the River Dochart comes rushing down over the frothy Falls of Dochart before disgorging into Loch Tay. Just below the falls is an island which is the burial place of the Clan McNab.

In 1829 the old clan lands was sold to pay off debt and the owners emigrated to Canada. This fulfilled the prophecy that stated when a great storm blew the branch of a pine tree against the trunk of another and grafted itself onto the trunk the McNabs would lose their land.

The bridge spanning the River Dochart was built c.1730.
