Wallace Monument
Standing
on top of the Abbey Craig, a wooded outcrop 2 miles north of Stirling is the National Wallace Monument, which
built as a tribute to William Wallace.
It was from this 110m/360ft high hill thatWallace watched the English army cross Stirling Bridge before he led the Scots to battle and
victory against them in 1297.
The 67m/220ft high tower was designed by J. T. Roachead and took 8 years to
build and was completed in 1869. Money for the monument was raised by public
subscription.
