History of Stirling Castle
- Between 1107 and 1115 Alexander I arranged for a castle
chapel to be dedicated and endowed. (This is the first real evidence of a castle
in Stirling.)
- 1124 - Alexander I died in the castle.
- 1174 - the castle (along with the castles at Berwick,
Edinburgh, Jedburgh and Roxburgh) surrendered to Henry II of England under the
Treaty of Falaise, where Scotland was made a feudal possession of England
and William and his nobles swore to Henry II, as the price of the release of
William of Lion who was captured during a raid into England.
- 1189 - Treaty of Falaise overturned by Richard the
Lionheart of England after he agreed it had been obtained by force.
- 1214 - William the Lion died in the castle.
