Holy Rude Church

The Holy Rude Church in Stirling dates from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

On 29th July 1567 the infant James VI was crowned king here - the only Church, apart from Westminster Abbey, in the United Kingdom to have held a coronation.

In 1656 the Church was divided into two sections after a dispute in the congregation. It was altered in the nineteenth century; further restoration work took place in the twentieth century with the dividing wall being removed in 1936.

The Star Pyramid in the church graveyard commemorates all who were martyred while seeking religious freedom.
