Falkirk
Speckled Church
Known as Faukirke in 1298 and renamed Falkirk in 1458.
Falkirk, which lies south of Stirling,
is in an area rich in history - many characters from
Scotland's past have been associated with the district:

 William Wallace fought a
famous battle in 1298 - the first of two battles in the town's history.

Mary Queen of Scot's was great friends with a noble family, the Livingston's,
who lived in Calendar House, one of the town's mansion's, from the 14th century
to the 18th century. Their daughter Mary was one of the Queen's ladies in
waiting and one of the Four
Mary's.

Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite troops took victory in the 2nd battle of
Falkirk in 1746.
The Falkirk Wheel
was built to join the Union and Forth and Clyde Canals.
In the late eighteenth century, nearby Stenhousemuir was the
location of the Falkirk Tryst, the largest cattle market in Scotland.
