Castle Campbell
Originally
known as Castle Gloom, it came into the hands of the Campbell's in 1481,
who changed its name in 1489.
In the gardens you can se the archway where John Knox
is said to have preached in 1556.
In 1654 Cromwell's troops burnt the castle and all that
remains is a graceful seventeenth century loggia and a roofless hall. However
the oldest part of the castle the fifteenth century tower built by Sir Colin
Campbell survived the fire, you can walk around the roof of the tower and see
wonderful views of Dollar Glen and the surrounding area's.
