Glenfinnan Monument

The Glenfinnan Monument was built in 1815 as a memorial to the those who fought and died for the cause of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the 1745 Jacobite Rising.

The tower is 65 ft with a spiral staircase leading to a platform at the top where a kilted figure stands. This is assumed to be the prince, but is actually meant to represent a Highlander representing the men supporting the prince. It was added to the monument in 1834.

Surrounding the monument is an octagonal wall enclosing a garden that contains the floral emblems of the clans who joined the prince on his campaign.

The monument and the land surrounding it are now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. A Visitor Centre gives full details of the events known as the Forty Five.
