Glen Affric

An old Drove Road runs through part of the glen known as Chisholm's Pass.

The glen is also famous for surviving Caledonian pines - the Forestry Commission have been working in the glen since 1935.

In 1928 and 41 hydro-electric power schemes were proposed that Loch Affric and Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin were made into one huge dammed loch. The eventual scheme from the late 40s diverted the water of Loch Mullardoch into Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin.

The two highest peaks north of the Great Glen are Mam Sodhail (1181m/3974 ft) and Carn Eighe (1183m/3881 ft).
