Fort George

Fort George stands on a piece of land jutting into the Moray Firth near Ardersier, northeast of Inverness. It was built following the Jacobite Rising of 1745-6 and while it was described in 1748 by Lt. Col. James Wolfe as the most considerable fortress and best situated in Great Britain it never fulfilled the purpose for which it was built.
