Fort Augustus

Fort Augustus is located at the southwest end Loch Ness nestled in the centre of the stunning scenery of Scotland's Great Glen. There are also several exhibitions open, and boat trips onto Loch Ness making this an ideal stop over point on the way.

The Caledonian Canal passes through the town on it's way to Loch Ness with a series of five locks lowering it to the level of the loch. There is also a swing bridge at the point where the A82 crosses the canal.

After crossing the canal, the A82 continues along the western side of Loch Ness to Invermoriston, where the A887 heads west through Glen Moriston, while the A82 continues northwest through Drumnadrochit to Inverness. An alternative route from Fort Augustus is to follow the B862, which follows the eastern side of Loch Ness to Inverness.
