Jedburgh

Jedburgh is located on the Jed Water, a tributary of the River Teviot, in the Scottish Borders.

The Augustinian abbey was built between 1150 and 1225; Alexander III was married in the abbey in 1285.

Bridewell Jail, near the abbey, is now the Sheriff Court while the nearby castle, which replaced the original that was destroyed in 1409, was used as a county jail and now as a museum.

From Jedburgh the A68 heads roughly northwest, passing through Saint Boswells and, crossing the River Tweed, Leaderfoot. This road eventually leads to Edinburgh, passing over the Lammermuir Hills along the way.
