I'll leave the where for now, but the car looks like an Austin-Healey (maybe a 3000?)

Not a bad guess Bruce but it’s not an 3000 or any Austin Healey model.

You’ve nearly the right year, The Old Lady is one year older than the 3000 UK introduction.

Coincidentally and for information (no affiliation) there’s a 3000 for sale at the garage on Woodlands Road, Glasgow.

Spot on, that’s the one

You can easy tell the differance wbetween 1500 & 1600 & MkII with the configuration of the rear lights.

The 1500 has only a single break light that also flashes thereby it doubles up as the indicator
The 1600 has an additional indicator light, also more powere and disc brakes on the front
The MKII has mini lights turned on there side, again more power and disc brakes all round

The Twin Cam has Dunlop wheels, loads of power and disc's all round, most likely found in the garage for reapirs
The rare Du-lux is a twin Cam with the MkII engine

The other clue is the badges by the air vents on the bonnet and the boot, but only if your up close.

The Old Lady's no need for more power or disc brakes  strictly sunny A & B roads for us, we're in no rush to go anywhere 8) 8) 8)

YEAR / MODEL
1958 MGA 1500 Coupe ~ The Old Lady ~

COLOUR
Black exterior / Red interior ~ original colour scheme.
-
ENGINE / TRANSMITION
Original 1500cc engine & 4 speed gearbox ~ no synchromesh on first.

RESTORATION
2002 ~ The previous owner oversaw a full body off restoration. All surfaces were taken to bare metal, surface defects removed, some areas receiving mild steal plates to reinstate to an acceptable condition.

The engine received only minor mechanical work, the interior light cosmetic attention.

The above works were carried out by staff at S & G Coachworks of Chesterfield.

MODIFICATIONS
Webasto Sunroof (circa 1978) a welcome luxury in the hot weather

At time of restoration;
Two replacement door skins, hand made from 18 gauge aluminium.
Chrome wire wheels fitted.
Replacement bumper over-riders
Replacement headlamp units
Cut off switch and additional fuses

Running repairs have replaced (like for like) consumables including; fuel pump, water pump, radiator, exhaust system, drum brakes, oil lines and filters.

Seatbelts and an aftermarket radio fitted in 1987 both additions were removed in 2002.

HISTORY
First registered 26th June 1958 to owner in Skelmorlie (Ayrshire.)

Subsequently 6 keepers between 1985 and 2001 (Merseyside, Cornwall and Buckinghamshire areas)

Previous owner 2002 until 2011 (Sheffield) ~ lecturer and published author

GENERAL
The MGA was launched in 1955 as the replacement to the T-Series

Before the official launch of the MGA three aluminium bodied prototypes of the new sports car’ were entered into Le Mans. They acquitted themselves well, finishing fifth and sixth in their class.

To this day the MGA holds the record for the highest export percentage of any British car with only 5,000 or so being sold in the U.K.

Later production models increased engine capacity to 1600cc and added disc brakes. Also available were a Twin-Cam version and a slightly redesigned MKII model.

Production ceased in July of 1962, when the car was replaced with the MG MGB.
