What do Prestwick, Ayr, Kilmarnock and other Ayrshire hoteliers think about the name of the Ayrshire airport?
I looked at the TripAdvisor site and found this:

I wonder if the Scotsman April 1st story will light a bit of interest in the Robert Burns International?

Odd thing is, there actually was a Central Scotland Airport, with its main runway beneath what is now one of the main roads throught the Grangemouth petrochemical works. This opened on 1 July 1939 and closed in June 1955. If it had been operational today, you could (almost) get a picture like the spoofed one heading that article, albeit with the aircraft landing in the opposite direction!

Colin Shearer has produced a video which seems to have stirred up th petition:

It looks like this petition has finally taken off (pun intended!) - 15 signatures so far today and an average of over 10 since the 6th! So whatever has been done to promote the petition (and I don't think it is just Colin Shearer's youtube video!) long may it continue; however, that then leads to the next stage: at what point do you stop collecting signatures? and who is this petition going to be presented to?

I'm trying to make sure the same mistakes are not repeated Bruce.
How many times has this proposal been put forward (and by better folk than I)?
===================================================

Just had a look at the Ayrshire Post which states "More than 1100 people have signed a petition on the social networking site demanding a change to the airport's title."
Perhaps a wee mix up with numbers here:
1) We have 1,261 members on Facebook and 676 signatures on the GoPetition.
2) There was no DEMANDING involved. We asked for common sense.

I have been informed that "the Ayrshire Post were told over 1100 members on the site at the time of contact and over 600 signatures on the petition." Easy mistake.

Rumours of the "Rename Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Robert Burns International Group" being in any way responsible for closing down British aerospace until Infratil re-name Prestwick Airport is utter rubbish and should not be taken seriously. The group denies any responsibility for the eruption of any volcanoes, anywhe...re at any time, and are insulted by any accusations saying otherwise.
Cheers, Geoff

Anyone with the power to produce very large volcanos at will would not have any problem at all changing the name of an airport!

STILL HERE

The campaign asking for the airport to be renamed has been aired on the local radio station, West Sound, for the first time and hopefully will bring it to the attention of even more people.
This morning 2,392 "People Like This" on Facebook
1,028 signatures were on the GoPetition.

I know that I am doing this extremely slowly (oh don't I know it) but there have been a few attemps before which have failed, so:
slow and deliberate.

Thanks again for your support in the past.

While naming the airport after Robert Burns would be an obvious choice, how about naming it after Elvis Presley. It may be tacky or cheap sounding but I guarantee it would really put the airport and this part of the UK firmly on the map.

Sorry Atlantic, that proposal was made a few years ago and quickly put down.
Robert Burns was born only 6km away from where the airport is now situated in, as they say, "The Heart of Burns Country", Ayrshire, SW Scotland.

I'm still here : )

Over 4,000 people like this and counting.

People are beginning to get fed up with me so I've been "really trying" to keep a low profile.

Over 1300 signatures on the petition as well... I definitely think you should look at taking this on to the next stage; what are your plans for that?

I was told about a wee snag in plan A and had to rethink but I'm still working on it Bruce.
4,950 people like it now. Perhaps I'll be ready by 5,000.

Can I mention "Homecoming Scotland II" on "Around Scotland"?
