Hi everyone - I've just found this forum.

I live in Fife, a proud Scotsman who is a member of the Cameron Clan. I love visiting the Highlands as often as I can and hope to load some of my photographs sometime. Particularly fond of Glenfinnan but absolutely love the Isle of Harris and visit for a week every October.

Love Scottish produce and cook as often as I can.

Hope to meet many new friends on here.

Welcome to the forum The Jacobite... we look forward to seeing your pics and reading your comments!

Is your avatar the raising of the Jacobite standard at Glenfinnan in 1745? Its an area I've visited a few times in my travels, but never yet climbed the hill where the standard was raised... maybe next time we're there we will (me and Linda that is!)

Hi Bruce - the avatar certainly is that of Charlie raising the standard at Glenfinnan. It's well worth the visit. It's a part of Scottish History that means a lot to me and I visit Lochaber as often as I can.

I can also recommend the new visitor centre at Culloden - It's well worth seeing.

As you can read elsewhere, the Road to the Isles (heading from Fort William) is my favourite in Scotland. However its been a few years since I was up that way (almost 3 in fact)... something I need to rectify soon!

I was also at Culloden during the trip I mentioned above so haven't seen the new visitor centre yet, but that's somewhere else I want to get back to. In fact we are even considering re-joining the NTS, but will leave that until we're more sure of our plans!

Hi Jacobite

Welcome to the forum, I hope you will enjoy it here.

I love Harris too (and Lewis) we always spend some time there in the summer but have visited at other times of the year too. Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures of your travels.

Jacobite, I have been meaning to ask you about your user name!

Obviously I know a bit about the Jacobites, but I am wondering whether you just chose the name as you are interested in that period of history. Or are you like some of the modern day Jacobites that would like to see the return of the Stewart/Stuart line to the throne of Britain? If so, who do you see as being the current "king over the water"?

Hi Bruce

I used the name as I am really interested in that period and am definately for them rather than against. However I am not one who thinks that the Stewarts will ever return to the throne. I think that time has elapsed. I just think it was such an important part of our history and throws up so many 'what ifs'.
