1. Top of my list here has to be Culloden battlefield and specifically the Clan Graves there.
2. Next up is the Scott Monument in Edinburgh as it has always fascinated me!
3. The memorial to the Saltire at Athelstaneford is the best use of a doocot that I have ever heard, so for that reason comes third in this list!
4. The Alexander III monument is one I rate highly more so for its marking a major turning point in Scottish history rather than for the monument itself!
5. I wasn't going to include the Cobb memorial at the side of Loch Ness, but at the end of the day, as plain as it might be, it marks the respect the locals had for John Cobb as much as it does his death while attempting to break the Water Speed Record!
6. Rather than list them separately, this is for every battlesite memorial that commemorates where people died for what they believed in... especially if they were fighting for their own freedom!
7. Like 6, this is for every memorial where someone has died as a result of a plain/helicopter/train crash or boat sinking as well as people being killed while attempting to save someone else!
8. The Wallace Cairn in Callander Park, Falkirk as its quite subtle when compared to 9 and 10!
9. Despite the fact I think the Wallace Monument in Stirling is one of the ugliest buildings EVER, I suppose it should still be in the Top 10... however, any monument to Andrew de Moray should be placed higher!
10. Then again, the Wallace statue near Dryburgh in the Borders is quite horrendous too, but also very impressive! In the end I would probably rate it lower than the monument in Stirling due to the latter's position in connection to the history of the Battle of Stirling Bridge!

The fact these were first mentioned on the forum 5 days ago and we'd been discussing it for at least a day before that... it has been a slow process, but like you said the two of us didn't disagree... I just said "yes dear" a lot!

I didn't even think about that one  I suppose I could include that in No. 6 in my list!

I was once asked why they were not allowed to take pictures inside the War memorial there, had to tactfully explain it was due to respect for the fallen!
