A NEW row has broken out over controversial plans for a university campus - after it emerged five historic buildings have been added to Scotland’s official “at risk” register. The listed buildings on Edinburgh Napier’s Craighouse campus have been added to the list at the request of developers who bought the site for £10 million more than a year ago.

The Craighouse Partnership makes it clear that the longer the buildings remain unused the poorer the condition they will be in and the “greater the risk of ultimate demolition.” But they have been accused of trying to “frighten” the community in Morningside and pressurise council planners to approve redevelopment plans which have triggered more than 5,000 protests.

William Gray Muir, spokesman for the partnership, and director of Sundial Properties, said: “The longer a building remains on the register the poorer the condition is likely to be and the greater risk of ultimate demolition. Until a sustainable long-term use is identified and implemented for the buildings at Craighouse they are, by definition, at risk.”
