The names Marjorie and Ermingarde keep popping up in the 13th and 14th centuries.
Were these popular names given to girls in Scotland or just girls of noble birth in Scotland?

Marjorie = Pearl

Marjorie Comyn
Marjorie daughter of Alexander II 'the Peaceful', King of Scotland.
Marjorie of Carrick (1256-1292), countess of Carrick.
Marjorie Bruce (1296 – 1316) eldest daughter of Robert the Bruce.

I don't believe there is any significance in these names, they were just maybe popular at the time! Marjorie is derived from Margaret and might have been used for girls of noble birth for the connection to the two Queen Margarets (the wife of Malcolm Canmore and the granddaughter of Alexander III).

Of course, without extensive records showing the names of the less noble people we'll never know how widespread either of these names actually were.
