The new chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is looking to lure more Glaswegians to the biggest arts event in the world by arranging or helping to set up package tours for the large potential west coast audience. People from Glasgow could be encouraged to buy a series of tickets for a day at the Fringe, which begins next week, and be transported to and from Edinburgh, removing any transport issues that they might have.

Audience analysis shows only 4-6% of Fringe tickets were sold to people from the western end of the M8 last year. Kath Mainland said: "The idea is that you would start a very classy, high-quality guide system to get Glasgow customers, take them to the festival and take them home again.
