Anyone know why this small Calmac boat is at Port Askaig. Surely not on the Kennacraig run or was it ever used for the Jura one.

I guess that is a temporary ferry replacing the regular Jura ferry for maintenance which is run By the Argyll&Bute council and not by Calmac. Or maybe it's some sort of maintenance vessel...

On my Port Askaig page you'll find the regular Isle of Jura ferry from Port Askaig to Feolin on Jura.

And here is a close up

And a page of The Calmac Fleet

Hope this helps :D

I'd rather be on Islay but Jura is great as well!

From that list it looks like its the MV Raasay, the spare / relief vessel!

Cheers guys. Good pics. Was on the Jura ferry recently myself. Am not sure about the boat being the Raasay.

But it must be one of the six car ferries in this list. The older style writing on the side of the undiscovered Scotland pic has me baffled still but it has to be one of them I guess. If you look at the writing on the side of "MV Coll" and " MV Rhum" this is more the style of writing on the side but these boats are white.

The boat in the pic is the "Eigg". It was operating the Jura route from Port Askaig at the time and, in my ignorance, I rather assumed that meant this was a CalMac route. From what you say, CalMac must have leased A&B Council a replacement while the normal vessel wasn't available for some reason (the pic was taken in April 2002).

Colin, the boat that normally goes from Port Askaig to Jura is run by Argyll & Bute, not CalMac, so the ferry would probably have been the blue and white one pictured by Ron!
