Prestonpans

Prestonpans lies on the southern side of the Firth of Forth and is named from the salt pans of the area. The last salt works in Britain closed here in 1959. Another industry in the area was coal mining, but this ceased in 1952.

To the east of Prestonpans, and south of Cockenzie and Port Seton, is the site of the battle of 1745. A memorial to this stands on a pyramid shaped hill.
