AthelstanefordThe village of Athelstaneford in East Lothian takes its name from the Northumbrian king Athelstan, who was defeated by the Picts, led by Unuist, in the 8th century. It was before this battle that a cloud formation was seen in the sky that resembled the cross of St. Andrew. A restored 16th century doocot houses the Flag Heritage Centre which commemorates the event. |
