Staffa
The small uninhabited island of Staffa lies to the west of
Mull in the Inner Hebrides.
It is a popular place to visit due mainly to Fingal's
Cave as well as the cliffs and other caves formed by the hexagonal columns of basalt
that make up the island. These are also the reason for its Norse name, which
translates as island of the pillars. In
1772 these features were recognised as a geological wonder.
