Inverkeithing
Inverkeithing has been a Royal Burgh since 1159; it is one of the oldest burghs in Scotland.
The Mercat Cross was erected in 1398 as a gift
from Robert III to commemorate the wedding of his son, the Duke of Rothesay, to
the daughter of the Earl of Douglas. Around the top of the shaft are the shields
of the king, Queen Annabella Drummond, the duke and the red heart of the Douglas
family.
The Lammas Fair is held every year.
