Glenrothes

Glenrothes was founded in 1949 as the second New Town in Scotland and was originally developed for a new coalmine in the area. However the coal did not last, but the town still grew and is now the administrative centre of Fife. With the number of electronics related companies in the area, the town has been dubbed Silicon Glen.

Situated on the River Leven, to the east of Leslie, the name is taken from the Earl of Rothes who had owned land in the area. Their family name, Leslie, also gave the smaller town its name.
