Elie & Earlsferry

These two burghs were amalgamated in 1929.

Elie was once a popular bathing spot. To the east of Elie Bay, at Sauchar Point, is the Lady's Tower built for Lady Anstruther in the late 18th century. Used as a summer house it included a changing room so she could bathe in a pool in the rocks below.

Earlsferry had been a burgh since 1223 and was named after the ferry that ran from here to North Berwick.

Earlsferry was also the birthplace of five times Open Champion golfer James Baird.
