Burntisland

The burgh of Burntisland was established in 1568.

Rossend Castle dates from the 12th century. In 1563 French poet Pierre de Chaterlard hid in the bedroom of Mary, Queen of Scots. When found he was taken to St. Andrews and executed.

St. Columba's was the first post-reformation church built in Scotland.

The ferry terminal was at Pettycur and the first public coach was established from here to Newport in 1805. In 1850 the first rail ferry linked Burntisland to Granton on the opposite side of the Firth of Forth.

In 83 AD Agricola made camp at Dunearn Hill.
