East Kilbride
East Kilbride was the first of the New
Towns in Scotland, being developed in 1947 around the original village that
was there.
It is the home of the National Museum
of Scottish Country Life. Kittochside, which is part of this, is a 170
acre farm where traditional methods of farming can still be observed. Within the
museum there is a small building that from the outside looks like a factory but
when inside it is divided into three principle sections:
- Land Gallery – this is about how the
land in Scotland has been used over the centuries.
- People Gallery – looks at the life of
farmers and their families.
- Tools Gallery – displays all the
machinery and farm equipment used over the centuries.
