Biggar
Biggar is an old market town in which the
main streets are still lined with dated shops.
The town has a number of museums to its
claims:

Moat Park Heritage Centre is where you will
find out about the history of the town including Brownsbank Cottage, the former
home of poet Hugh McDiarmid and his wife. Also in the centre you can see table
covers made by local tailor Menzies Moffat and a collection of four thousand
thimbles.

Gladstone Court Museum has a recreated
street of Victorian shops including a bank, cobblers and a telephone exchange.

Albion Museum has a collection of old
vehicles from local firm Albion Motors.

Greenhill Covenanters Museum gives
details of the Covenanters religious movements.

Biggar Gasworks Museum has the
appearance of a Lilliputian power station, built in 1939 this is the only coal
based gas works still standing.

The Puppet Museum, which stands near the
country park, has marionettes from around the world.
