Lochranza
At the northern end
of Arran is Loch Ranza, the loch of the safe anchorage;
the village named after the loch is also the location of the Isle of Arran
distillery. To the northeast is the ferry for Claonaig and, during the winter
months, to Tarbert,
both on the
Kintyre peninsula.
Lochranza
Castle
dates from the 16th century, but there is believed to have been an
earlier castle here; Robert the Bruce is said to have stayed there in the 14th
century.
