Bute

Bute is the second largest island in the Firth of Clyde and is reached by ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay; alternatively there is a ferry from Colintraive on the Cowal peninsula.

The A844 circles the southern half of the island, heading south from Rothesay to Kingarth. The road heads northwest then north before turning northeast to Port Bannatyne. At this point the A886 heads northwest to the northern end of the island and the ferry port for Colintraive. The A844 heads east then south to complete its journey back to Rothesay.

The Kyles of Bute is the name given to the narrow stretch of water that separated the northern end of the island from the mainland.

Mount Stuart is the ancestral home of the Marques of Bute.
