Leith

To the north of Edinburgh, where the Water of Leith enters the Firth of Forth, is the village of Leith. Dating back to the 12th century the village grew round the port there and in 1329 it became Edinburgh's official port. However, it remained a separate burgh until 1920.

The oldest house is Lamb's House, which dates from 1561 and was renovated in the 18th century. Mary, Queen of Scots, stayed there when she returned to Scotland.
