Cramond

Cramond is situated on the Firth of Forth to the west of Edinburgh, at the mouth of the River Almond. The name is derived from Caer Almond, fort on the Almond, from Roman fort built there c.142AD by Emperor Antonius Pius.

The parish church dates from 1658 and Cramond House from 1680. The 18th century houses were built for the ironworks that operated in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Cramond Island in the Forth can be reached by a causeway at low tide.
