Southern Kintyre

From Campbeltown the B842 heads west, towards Stewarton and into southern Kintyre. At Stewarton the road, now designated the B843, continues west to Machrihanish while the B842 turns south towards Southend and the Mull of Kintyre.

To the west of Campbeltown is a triangular area of low-lying land, known as the Laggan. This is bounded by Campbeltown in the east along with Machrihanish and Westport in the west. Following the last ice-age, this area would have been under water making the southern part of the Kintyre peninsula an island.
