Loch Fyne

Loch Fyne is Scotland's longest sea loch.

Strachur sits on the opposite shore of the loch to Inveraray. This was the home to Sir Fitzroy MacLean, a soldier and diplomat - and also the basis for Ian Fleming's famous spy, James Bond.

Archie McPhunn also lived in Strachur. He was convicted of stealing sheep and was hanged at Inveraray. In the boat returning his body home his wife managed to revive him with some whisky which earned him the nickname Half Hung Archie.
