The map references in the list below mark the points where the battlefield
symbols (crossed swords) or other indicator of a battle (such as a memorial)
appear on Ordnance Survey (OS) maps:
- Alnwick (1093) - NU192144 (Northumberland) - follow the B6341 north from Alnwick;
Malcolm's
Cross (NU190147), which marks the spot where Malcolm Canmore and his son
were killed, can be found on the site of the battle.
- Ancrum Moor (1545) - NT618272 (Scottish Borders) - follow A68 from St. Boswells south-east towards Ancrum.
- Auldearn (1645) - NH916550 (Highland) - follow the A96 and B9111 from Nairn to Auldearn then
the B9101 south.
- Bannockburn (1314) - NS816917 (Stirling) - follow A905 east from Stirling then the A91 south. (For the
Heritage Centre in Bannockburn itself, follow A9 then A872 south from Stirling.)
- Bothwell Bridge (1679) - NS714577 (South Lanarkshire) - follow B7071 south-west from Bothwell to Bothwell Bridge.
- Carbisdale (1650) - NH567944 (Highland) - follow A836 south-west to from Bonar Bridge to Ardgay then unnamed roads
north-west to Culrain.
- Cromdale (1690) - NJ099274 (Highland) - follow A95 from Speybridge to Cromdale then the unnamed road (following
the Speyside Way) south-east.
- Culloden (1746) - NH742451 (Highland) - follow B9006 east from Inverness, crossing the moor to the visitor centre at
the eastern end of the battlefield.
- Drumclog (1679) - NS625397 (East Ayrshire) - follow the A71 east from Darvel to Loudoun Hill then the unnamed road north
then east to High Drumclog.
- Dunbar (1296) - NT675761 (East Lothian) - follow the unnamed road south from Dunbar, crossing the A1, towards Spott.
- Dunbar (1650) - NT694765 (East Lothian) - follow the A1 south-east from Dunbar.
- Dupplin Moor (1332) - NO050190 (Perth & Kinross) - follow the B9112 south-west from Perth past Dupplin Castle.
- Falkirk (1746) - NS874790 (Falkirk) - follow the B803 west from Falkirk.
There is a possibility the Battle of Falkirk of 1298 was fought in the same
area.
- Flodden Field (1513) - NT890370 (Northumberland) - follow unnamed road south-west from Branxton.
- Glen Trool (1307) - NX422798 (Dumfries & Galloway) - follow unnamed road east from Glentrool to the eastern end of Loch Trool.
- Glenlivet (1594) - NJ248295 (Highland) - follow the B9009 north-east from Auchbreck
- Glenshiel (1719) - NG990134 (Highland) - follow the A87 south-east from Shiel Bridge.
- Halidon Hill (1333) - NT968547 (Northumberland) - follow the A6105 north-west from Berwick-upon-Tweed.
- Harlaw/Pitcaple (1411) - NJ752242 (Aberdeenshire) - follow the B9001 north from Inverurie then an unnamed road west.
- Highbridge (1745) - NN199819 (Highland) - follow the A82 south-west from Spean Bridge and then an unnamed road
north-west to Highbridge. A cairn marks the spot of the skirmish and the remains
of the original High Bridge can be seen.
- Inverkeithing/Pitreavie (1651) - NT119846 (Fife) - follow the A823 south from Dunfermline to the junction with the A823(M),
taking the first exit into Pitreavie.
- Inverlochy (1431 & 1645) - NN118753 (Highland) - follow the A82 north-east from Fort William.
- Killiecrankie (1689) - NN902637 (Perth & Kinross) - follow B8079 south-east from Blair Athol.
- Kilsyth (1645) - NS741786 (North Lanarkshire) - follow the A803 west from Kilsyth and then the unnamed road
towards Banton Loch.
- Loudoun Hill (1307) - NS608372 (East Ayrshire) - follow the A71 east from Darvel.
- Methven (1306) - NO025264 (Perth & Kinross) - the battlefield is to the north of Methven.
- Otterburn (1388) - NY877938 (Northumberland) - follow the A696 north-west from Otterburn.
- Philiphaugh (1645) - NT454281 (Scottish Borders) - follow the A707 west from Selkirk then the A708 south-west.
- Pinkie Cleugh (1547) - NT360716 (East Lothian) - follow the A199 south-east from Musselburgh to the junction with the A6094
then follow the A6094 south-west through Wallyford.
- Prestonpans (1745) - NT403744 (East Lothian) - follow the B6371 south from Cockenzie & Port Seton.
- Rapploch Moss (1307) - NX552768 (Dumfries & Galloway) - follow the A712 west from New Galloway to Clatteringshaws
Loch.
- Redeswire Fray (1575) - NT702071 (Scottish Borders) - follow the A68 south from Jedburgh to where it crosses the border with
England at Carter Bar.
- Rullion Green (1666) - NT219625 (Midlothian) - follow the unnamed road north-west from Penicuik to join the A702 and head
south-west to Rullion Green.
- Sherrifmuir (1715) - NN829028 (Stirling) - follow the unnamed road south-east from Dunblane then north-east to Sheriff
Muir.
- Stirling Bridge (1297) - NS797945 (Stirling) - near the junction of the A9 and A84 in Stirling, to the north-west of
Stirling Castle, the Old Bridge crosses the Forth close to where the wooden
bridge of the battle once stood. The main part of the battle took place on the
northern side of the river.
- Tibbermore (1644) - NO068231 (Perth & Kinross) - follow A9 west from Perth to Lamberkine.
