Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire is located in the northeast of Scotland, between the Grampian Mountains and the North Sea. The city of Aberdeen in the east of the area, standing between the mouths of the Rivers Dee and Don, is the 3rd largest city in Scotland.

Entering the area from the south, the A90 crosses from Angus into Aberdeenshire as it crosses the North Esk. This road passes near Stonehaven, with the ruins of Dunnottar Castle just to the south, before entering Aberdeen. From there the A90 continues north, bypassing Peterhead, to Fraserburgh. An alternative route into the area would be to follow the A93 north from Perth, which passes through Braemar before turning east to Aberdeen.

From Fraserburgh, the A98 heads west, entering Moray near Cullen. The A96 heads northwest from Aberdeen, passing through Inverurie and Huntly, before it too passes into Moray; the A96 and A98 meet at Fochabers and continue through Elgin and Forres into the Highlands.
